Everyone is a Peacemaker!

March 11 @ 11:45 am - 1:15 pm
Peace does not begin in policy. It begins in people.
Join the Rotary Club of Pittsburgh for the launch of Every Rotarian a Peacemaker,
a new initiative focused on practical peacemaking in everyday life at home, at work, and in our communities.

A new half day workshop currently in development, Informal Conflict Mediation, will teach practical mediation principles such as active listening, finding common ground, and reducing reactivity. Unlike formal mediation processes, this approach is designed for everyday situations where tensions are escalating and relationships matter.

Speakers at the March 11 launch ceremony will include Elaine Parke, Rotarian and recipient of 2025 “International Exceptional Woman of Peace Lifetime Achievement Award.” Dr. Melvin Steals, Former Pittsburgh school principal to initiate a school-based version of this model and composer of lyrics for the Spinners famous classic, “Could it Be I’m Falling in Love”, and Linda Fischer Bruce, esteemed Rotary Member of the original Pittsburgh Club’s 12 Peace Habits Project Team Club President Eric Moye will serve as emcee, guiding the audience through speaker introductions and welcoming remarks.

The March timing is intentional. Within the 12 Peace Habits framework, March focuses on resolving conflicts, fittingly described as “in like a lion, out like a lamb.”
